Privacy Policy for KeySwitch

Your privacy is extremely important to us. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome extension (KeySwitch) handles your data. We believe in complete transparency and have designed our extension to ensure your data stays where it belongs: on your local device.

1. Information Collection and Use

KeySwitch is a productivity tool designed to convert accidentally mistyped text between keyboard layouts (Hebrew and English character mapping). To perform this function, the extension operates under the following rules:

• No Text Tracking/Logging: The extension processes text either automatically in real-time (to detect layout errors as you type) or manually when you trigger a conversion via a keyboard shortcut or context menu. Text processing happens on your local device, in memory, purely to perform the character swap — your text is never logged, profiled, or visible to anyone. There is one narrow, deliberate exception: if you trigger a manual conversion on a page where the extension cannot run its in-page script, the text you selected is handed to the extension's own popup through local storage and deleted again the moment the popup reads it. That hand-off never leaves your device.
• No Keystroke Logging: While the extension monitors layout patterns locally to provide the automatic switching feature, it does not track, record, or profile your general typing activity, passwords, or sensitive inputs.
• No Browsing History Access: Although the extension requires host permissions to function automatically across different websites, it does not track, read, or save the URLs, page content, or general browsing history of the websites you visit. The one narrow exception: if you choose to disable auto-correction for a specific site or text field (an option offered only after you've manually undone several corrections there), the domain name of that site is saved locally so your choice is remembered. This is entirely optional, reversible at any time from the extension's settings, and is never transmitted anywhere.

2. Local Storage

The extension utilizes the Chrome Extension Storage API (chrome.storage.local) to store the following categories of data locally on your device:

• Your feature preferences, such as whether automatic correction (and its notifications) is turned on, your primary typing language, and whether you have already seen the first-run welcome screen.
• Local usage counters — how many corrections have been made, and how many correction notices you have already been shown — used solely to show your own statistics in the popup and to occasionally display a donation prompt after extended use (the date of such a prompt is stored so it is not repeated).
• If you choose to disable auto-correction for a specific website or text field, that choice (including the site's domain name, and for a single field the attributes that identify it, such as its name or placeholder) is saved locally so it is remembered. This is optional, reversible at any time from the extension's settings, and is never transmitted anywhere.
• When you undo a correction, a timestamp of that undo is kept for the text field it happened in, covering only the trailing five days. This is what lets the extension notice a third undo in the same field and offer to switch itself off there, instead of repeating a correction you clearly do not want.
• A single flag recording whether the KeySwitch desktop application is currently running on your computer (see section 3).

Keyboard shortcut customization is handled entirely by Chrome's own extension-shortcuts settings page, not by KeySwitch — we do not store it and have no access to it.

None of this data is ever uploaded to any remote server; it stays strictly inside your local browser profile.

3. Local Communication with the KeySwitch Desktop App

If you also use the KeySwitch desktop application on the same computer, this extension periodically checks (about once a minute) whether the desktop app is currently running, by sending a small request to your own computer's loopback address (127.0.0.1) — an address that never leaves your machine and is not reachable from the internet or from any other device. This check exists solely so the extension and the desktop app don't both try to correct the same text at the same time. No text, keystrokes, or personal data are sent in or received from this check.

4. Third-Party Sharing

Because we do not collect any user data, we do not sell, trade, or transfer any information to third parties. There are no tracking scripts, analytics tools, or third-party advertisements embedded within the extension.

The extension may display an optional donation button linking to PayPal. If you choose to click it, you leave the extension and PayPal's own privacy policy applies. On that donation page only, the extension applies a small cosmetic script that lays the page out right-to-left for Hebrew readers; it changes appearance only and does not read, collect, or transmit anything from the page.

The extension loads no fonts, stylesheets, scripts, or images from any external server. Every asset it displays is bundled inside the extension itself.

5. Regulatory Compliance (GDPR / CCPA)

We respect global privacy rights, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). Since KeySwitch operates entirely locally, you maintain absolute control over your data. You can erase everything the extension has stored by removing the extension from Chrome, which deletes its local storage with it. Note that clearing your browsing data or cache does not remove extension storage — uninstalling (or using Chrome's "Site settings" for the extension) is what clears it.

6. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected by updating the "Effective Date" at the top of this page.
